What is NARI?

“We speak often about belonging to NARI (The National Association of the Remodeling Industry), and the value to the Homeowner of hiring a NARI remodeler. However, for those of you who aren't familiar with this organization, we wanted to spend some time explaining just what NARI is!

NARI - National Association of The Remodeling Industry
NARI is the only independent national association dedicated solely to the remodeling industry. It is a not-for-profit trade association with more than 50 years of industry experience, and represents professional remodeling contractors, product manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, trade publications, utilities and lending institutions. NARI's core focus is on professional conduct, continuing education and training, and fair and ethical treatment within the industry. It is dedicated to being the best resource for knowledge and training in the remodeling industry.

Each member of NARI has gone through an extensive screening process, which includes credit checks, trade reference checks (Does the contractor pay their subcontractors and suppliers in a timely fashion), customer reference checks, and license and insurance verification. NARI requires all of its members to carry liability insurance, even though the state of California unfortunately does not require it. This insurance is critical to the protection of your home when you are having work done on it. Without it, you could be liable for injuries on the job and/or damage to your property!

Each and every NARI member has pledged to uphold NARI's Code of Ethics, to observe high standards of honesty, integrity, and responsibility by:

• Promoting in good faith only those products and services which are known to be functionally and economically sound, and which are known to be consistent with objective standards of health and safety

• Making all advertising and sales promotion factually accurate, avoiding those practices which tend to mislead or deceive the customer
and suppliers in a timely fashion?)

• Writing all contracts and warranties such that they comply with federal, state, and local laws

• Promptly acknowledging and taking appropriate action on all customer complaints

• Refraining from any act intended to restrain trade or suppress competition

• Attaining and retaining insurance as required by federal, state, and local authorities

• By attaining and retaining licensing and/or registration as required by federal, state, and local authorities

So what does NARI Membership mean to you, the remodeling homeowner? Deciding to remodel your home is a big decision. Outside of buying your home, it may be the single biggest investment you make. You need to know that the remodeling contractor you choose is a full-time, dedicated remodeling professional. NARI's certification program offers this assurance through its extensive screening, training and testing process. In addition, NARI certification programs require on-going education and training to maintain certification status. And because remodelers are not eligible for certification until they have been actively involved in the remodeling industry for at least five years, you know that the NARI certified remodeling professional you hire for your home improvement project has had many years to develop the experience and skills that can only be gained through extensive hands-on practice. You can be assured that when you hire a certified NARI member, you are hiring an individual who has made a strong commitment to the professionalism of the remodeling industry and to his or her business.”
